HERE’S MY STORY…
Before building a fulfilling photography business & servicing women of color, the journey that led me to this moment started 11 years ago.
In 2012, I was a high school student that struggled to get out of my shell, had only a handful of friends and played the clarinet in the band. In November, I had, what felt like, a one-in-a-lifetime chance to go on my first cruise. I was filled with excitement and overjoyed about my first cruise trip to the Bahamas. During that time, I did not own a professional camera; I only had my camera phone. During my entire 5 day trip, I took photos of everything from boarding the departure bus leaving my hometown to recording my first “seasick” experience. Recording these moments were so essential because I was able to relive those moments like I never left that place. That’s when I knew photography was one thing that seemed insignificant at the moment but could be so impactful. So I decided to take a leap on faith in 2014.
My parents were able to invest in my passion and helped me obtain my first professional Nikon camera. My first set of experiences with my camera was taking photos of my family and friends during family gatherings. For almost three years, I completely lost my faith in building my photography business or even starting my own entrepreneur journey. In 2018, I was a struggling college student barely making any money needed to find a way to make extra income. I pondered on several ideas from offering more after school tutoring services to finding another job. During 2018, I experienced a reoccurring and felt like a never ending struggle of applying for job openings and not receiving any callbacks about my application. At that time, I was beginning to become really discouraged. So I continued to ponder on more ideas and remembered that I had my Nikon camera and I could start my own photography business similar to other photographers I’ve known. The thought of doing photo shoots made me uncomfortable & I didn’t think I was good enough to pull it off successfully.
After contemplating for days, I received the confirmation I needed through a random photo shoot inquiry. One of my cousins offered to book a photo shoot with me for her baby’s one year old birthday milestone. Being an inexperienced photographer, I learned quickly that it is easy for anyone to pick up a camera, purchase a logo and call themselves a photographer for a discounted price. Here I was, a shy amateur photographer with no experience doing photo shoots. I did not have a photography brand, a website, portfolio or pricing packages. All I had was my eye, my will & my entry level DSLR camera. Little did I know that an $75 portrait session would transform my entire life.
Fast forward 2 years later…
I evolved from a timid photography hobbyist that struggled to find jobs to now working full time as a professional photographer & successfully operating my own company.
I’m continuously growing my photography business. From receiving mentorship to having a loyal clientele that hires my company on a consistent basis. Every photo shoot opportunity that I am given I strive my hardest to make the best impression for each of my clients.
Now my biggest goal is to help bring each client's stories to life through my lens; whether it be a location shoot or branding session. My biggest goal is to make each client feel beautiful and show their natural glow, inside and out!
